Wellesbourne is a great airfield to visit and train at. The SWFS club is friendly and not just interested in your money. The aircraft are well maintained. If you wish to eat at the airfield, the Touchdown Cafe offers simple but very tasty food at a very good price.
The airfield is currently fighting off greedy developers who wish to close the airfield to develop housing which neither the flying members/visitors/local residents want, so please fly in and keep us busy and active!!

I undertook an AOPA flying companion course a couple of years ago as I fly with my husband who undertook his PPL at this school. SWFS might not have the glossy front of some of the other schools at Wellesbourne, but they have the best flight instructors with a wealth of knowledge and the understanding of how to adapt their teaching to their student. It is a very friendly club and we have been made to feel welcome from the first time we walked in in 2006. The aircraft have recently been repainted and refurbished and we enjoy flying all of them!

I was lucky enough to join South Warwickshire Flying School as one of the six Royal Air Forces Association Scholars selected each year. The club and school are outstanding.

SWFS is surrounded by some beautiful countryside areas, and situated within a fantastic aerodrome. The facilities within SWFS are well looked after, and include a kitchen, crew room, briefing/classrooms, toilets, a reception, and their own private car park, and aircraft parking.

The instructors are all very helpful, and unquestionably kind. The extend of their knowledge goes hand in hand with their job, many of them being former training captains, and experienced commercial pilots.

The aircraft maintained at SWFS are in a relatively good condition (especially when you consider that many of them are more than 30 years old). The only aircraft I was exposed to was the Cessna 152, and 172, although I do believe the club own additional aircraft. They are great aircraft to learn in, and very forgiving.

I cannot say much on the price, as my scholarship was funded. Flying is always going to be expensive, however at £157 an hour, it is on parr with other flying schools, and for what you get out of the experience, I would suggest that it is well worth it.

The course I went on was unforgettable. I had an amazing time with some amazing friends, and some outstanding staff at SWFS. My special thanks go to Rodney, and Kim for making us so welcome, and to Ray for his superb teaching.

It would be ludicrous not to give the school a try.
